Kabbyanga Kicks Off Bukonzo West MP Campaign with Bold Agenda: Jobs, Talent & Industrial Growth

By IvanKaahwaReports

Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku Kiime has officially launched his 2026 campaign to become the Member of Parliament for Bukonzo West County.

‎He officially introduced himself to the people of Bukonzo West through an engagement drive with residents across the constituency.

‎Bukonzo West has long been led by opposition parties and is currently represented by Atkins Katusabe of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). Kabbyanga said the opposition has continued to win in the area mainly because of poor mobilization by the ruling NRM party. He boldly declared “I have come with vigor to change the narrative.”

‎Kabbyanga Vows to Drive Economic Transformation

‎In an exclusive interview with The New Light Paper and UBC Television; Kabbyanga said he is committed to implementing the government’s plan for social and economic transformation. He plans to use the Four Acre Mode as a foundation for prosperity.

‎He urged locals to grow crops like coffee and food items such as matoke (bananas) which can also be sold for income. He encouraged farmers to plant fruit trees, especially avocado and mangoes because they are profitable.

‎Backyard Farming and Livestock Support

‎Kabbyanga advised residents to practice livestock farming, including poultry, piggery and cattle keeping. He said planting grass for animals is important and used himself as an example having been involved in backyard farming for over four years. ‎He added that he has already supported many residents with chicks, turkeys, pigs and goats through government programs.

‎Mpondwe Border Market: A Missed Opportunity

‎Kabbyanga said one of his main goals is to encourage locals to take advantage of the Mpondwe Border Market. He shared data showing that Masaka and Bushenyi export around 100,000 trays of eggs; while 450 goats, 600 pigs and 3,000 cows are exported every week. He said this shows there is a ready market and locals in Kasese must engage in similar enterprises.

‎PDM Should Support More Than Farming

‎He also urged residents to benefit from the Parish Development Model (PDM) but highlighted that not everyone at the border can engage in farming. He asked President Museveni to allow PDM to also support non-farming businesses, especially for those living in urban areas. He said this would ensure that everyone is included in national development.

‎Kabbyanga added that the President is also aware of the challenges boda boda riders in Kasese face with moneylenders and that a response is expected soon.

‎Support for Skills and Youth Talent

‎Kabbyanga encouraged vulnerable groups especially the youth to make use of the Industrial Hub where they can receive hands on skills training. He said there are government programs already in place to help them start small businesses by providing essential tools and capital.

‎Kabbyanga also promised to support local talent in music and sports as a way to uplift the youth.

‎University Plans for Kasese

‎He revealed plans to lobby for a public university in Kasese. He noted that Bwera Teachers College which was phased out could be developed into a public university to serve the region.

‎Calls for Respectful Competition

‎Kabbyanga said he is ready to face off with Dr. Crispus Kiyonga in a peaceful and respectful race. He praised Dr. Kiyonga for his past service but said it is time for new leadership. He urged against hatred and blackmail during the campaigns, calling on everyone to appreciate each other’s contributions.
