The New Light Paper is produced by a small, dedicated team of journalists and professionals working across Uganda. From Kampala to the Eastern Region and the Rwenzori sub-region, our reporters bring stories from the communities they know best, giving the publication genuine national reach. Below are the people behind our journalism.
Gad Masereka – Founder, Managing Director & Editor-in-Chief

Gad Masereka is the Founder, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The New Light Paper. He founded the publication on 25th July 2019 and has built it from an independent online platform into a structured newsroom. Based in Kampala and originally from Kasese in western Uganda, he covers Ugandan politics, business, technology, and East African affairs. He oversees editorial strategy, publishing operations, and editorial standards, and is committed to building credible, locally-produced journalism for African audiences.

Kabugho Rahab – General Manager & Director

Kabugho Rahab is the General Manager and a Co – Director of New Light Communications U Limited, the company that publishes The New Light Paper. She has been part of the team since 2019 and oversees the administration, operations, and day-to-day running of the publication. Her work ensures the newsroom has the structure and support it needs to deliver reliable journalism consistently.

Ivan Kaahwa – Senior Political and Security Reporter

Ivan Kaahwa is the Senior Political and Security Reporter for The New Light Paper and a professional journalist and producer with Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) Television. With over a decade in mainstream media, he covers politics, governance, parliamentary affairs, elections, and social development in Uganda, with a focus on investigative reporting that fosters accountability and transparency. He is a member of the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) and a panelist on the Hashtag programme on Magic 100 FM (UBC). Ivan reports with integrity, clarity, and a commitment to truth.

Richard Onapatum – Field Correspondent, Eastern Region

Richard Onapatum is a Field Correspondent for The New Light Paper covering Uganda’s Eastern Region. Based in Kotido, he reports on regional affairs, security, community development, and human-interest stories from Karamoja and the wider east. He is also affiliated with Eko FM Kotido. Richard is committed to bringing grassroots reporting from often underserved regions to a national audience with accuracy and accountability.

Mukidi Hannington – Journalist, Rwenzori Sub-Region

Mukidi Hannington is a journalist with The New Light Paper based in Kasese, western Uganda. He reports on regional affairs, community development, and human-interest stories from the Rwenzori sub-region, bringing grassroots coverage to a national audience. He is committed to accurate, accountable reporting that gives voice to communities often overlooked in mainstream Ugandan media.
