Sudhir Ruparelia’s Speke Resort Offers a Lakeside Independence Day Break for Kampala Families

Ugandans looking for a short Independence Day break without leaving Kampala have been offered a lakeside option by Speke Resort Munyonyo, which has introduced a special holiday package combining accommodation, meals and access to leisure facilities at its Lake Victoria property.

The Freedom Getaway package has been designed for the October 9, 2026 holiday and targets individuals, couples and families seeking a convenient staycation. A single Deluxe Room is being offered at $120 per night, while a double Deluxe Room costs $149, with taxes included.

The package also includes breakfast and lunch together with access to the health club, swimming pool, steam room and sauna. By bringing accommodation, meals and recreation together, the offer gives guests the opportunity to spend the holiday within one destination rather than travelling long distances during the busy public holiday period.

The initiative reflects a broader shift in Uganda’s hospitality market, where domestic travellers have become an important customer group. Staycations allow city residents to enjoy leisure facilities while avoiding the time and cost associated with longer journeys to traditional holiday destinations.

For Sudhir Ruparelia, whose business interests include hospitality, the package also illustrates how local investment in tourism facilities can create products aimed at Ugandans as well as international visitors. Speke Resort has traditionally served business travellers, conference delegates and tourists, but its facilities also provide space for families and domestic leisure customers.

The resort’s location in Munyonyo gives the package a distinctive attraction. Its lakeside setting, accommodation, restaurants, health facilities and recreational spaces allow visitors to combine rest and leisure within the same property.

Independence Day falls on a Friday this year, creating the possibility of a longer weekend for people who want to extend their stay. The timing is therefore expected to appeal to customers seeking a short break while remaining within Kampala.

Speke Resort has also built a reputation around conferences and major events. Its convention facilities have hosted high level meetings and international gatherings, giving the property a dual role as both a business venue and a leisure destination.

That combination has helped the resort respond to different types of demand. Corporate events may drive activity during the week, while weekends and public holidays can provide opportunities to attract families, couples and other domestic visitors.

The Independence Day offer also comes during a period when Uganda is seeking to grow domestic tourism alongside international arrivals. Hotels and resorts that can provide attractive experiences to residents help keep tourism spending within the country and create demand for workers, suppliers, transport operators and other service providers.

Guests interested in the package have been advised to make reservations in advance because public holidays can increase demand for rooms and leisure facilities. The resort’s reservations team is handling bookings and enquiries through its established contact channels.

For Speke Resort, the Independence Day package is therefore more than a seasonal promotion. It is part of a wider effort to connect Uganda’s hospitality infrastructure with the domestic market and give residents more opportunities to experience leisure facilities within their own city.
