Corrections Policy
The New Light Paper is committed to accuracy. When we make a mistake, we correct it openly. This Corrections Policy explains how we handle errors, what readers can expect when we publish a correction, and how to report inaccuracies to our editorial team.
Our Commitment to Accuracy
Every story published by The New Light Paper is checked for factual accuracy before publication, in line with the verification standards set out in our Editorial Policy. However, errors sometimes occur. When they do, we believe transparency matters more than protecting our image.
We do not quietly edit published stories to hide mistakes. Significant corrections are acknowledged openly, dated, and explained.
What Counts as a Correction
We treat the following as corrections that require disclosure to our readers:
Factual errors – Incorrect names, dates, places, figures, titles, or attributions
Misquotes – A quote that was inaccurately transcribed or attributed to the wrong person
Misleading framing – A headline or opening paragraph that misrepresents the substance of a story
Outdated facts – Information that was accurate at publication but has since changed in a material way
Minor typographical fixes (spelling, punctuation, formatting) are corrected silently and do not require public notation.
How We Publish Corrections
When we publish a correction:
The corrected information replaces the inaccurate text in the article.
A correction note is added at the bottom of the article, clearly marked, dated, and describing what was changed and why.
If the error was significant or appeared in a headline, social media posts referencing the original incorrect version are updated where possible.
In cases of serious or repeated error, the Editor-in-Chief may issue a standalone clarification or apology.
We do not delete published stories to hide mistakes. If a story is found to be fundamentally inaccurate or unsupportable, it is retracted with a clear public note explaining the reason.
How to Report an Error
If you believe The New Light Paper has published inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading information, please contact our editorial team. Provide:
The title and URL of the article
The specific claim or passage you believe is inaccurate
The correct information, with supporting evidence or sources where possible
Your name and contact details (so we can follow up if needed)
Send your correction request to:
Email: editor@thenewlightpaper.co.ug
We aim to investigate every concern raised in good faith and respond within a reasonable time. Where a correction is warranted, it will be published as soon as the facts have been verified.
Right of Reply
Where our reporting has named or significantly affected a person or organization, and they believe our coverage was inaccurate or unfair, they have a right of reply. We will consider responses promptly and, where appropriate, update the article or publish a follow-up statement.
The right of reply does not require us to delete accurate reporting. It does require us to give the affected party a fair opportunity to put their position on record.
Editorial Authority
Final decisions on whether to issue a correction, retraction, or clarification rest with the Editor-in-Chief, in line with the editorial authority structure described in our Editorial Policy.
