The New Light Paper (NLP) is a digital news publication based in Uganda, delivering accurate and timely reporting on local, regional, and international affairs. We cover news, politics, business, technology, sports, entertainment, health, and current affairs across Uganda, Africa, and the wider world.

Who We Are

The New Light Paper is published by New Light Communications U Limited, a media company registered in the Republic of Uganda. New Light Communications is a subsidiary of Koom Holdings U Limited, the parent company that oversees our group’s broader media and technology operations.

The publication was founded on 25th July 2020 by Gad Masereka, who serves as Founder and Managing Director. What began as an independent online news platform has grown into a structured newsroom committed to professional journalism and editorial integrity.

Our Mission

We exist to inform the public. We believe a well-informed audience is essential to a functioning democracy, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our mission is to deliver journalism that is accurate, fair, independent, and accessible to readers across Uganda and the African continent.

We aim to give our readers reliable reporting they can trust, written in clear language, free of unnecessary jargon, and grounded in verified facts.

Our Values

Our work is guided by four core values:
Accuracy – We verify before we publish. Every story is checked against primary sources, and we correct errors openly when they occur.
Independence – Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial interests. Advertisers, sponsors, and business partners do not influence our news coverage.
Fairness – We give people and organizations subject to critical reporting a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
Transparency – We disclose our ownership, our editorial standards, and the nature of any sponsored content clearly to our readers.

The New Light Paper accepts sponsored content, advertising, and paid editorial features as part of our business model. However, we maintain a strict separation between editorial and commercial operations.

All sponsored content is clearly labelled and published under our dedicated Sponsored Content category. Payment for advertising does not guarantee favourable news coverage, and advertisers have no input on our reporting.
