ONC PDM Monitoring Finds Coffee Farmer’s Income Rising After Smart Investment
The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has recorded another success story under the Parish Development Model (PDM) after a monitoring exercise established that a beneficiary in Zirobwe Sub County, Luweero District, had significantly increased his household income by investing the government seed capital in coffee production.
The findings emerged during an ONC PDM monitoring exercise conducted recently in Buyondo Village, Kyetume Parish, Zirobwe Sub County, where ONC Regional Coordinator Wasswa Abdulkarim Tamale visited the home of Mr. Ochendi Nestroy to assess the impact of the government’s wealth creation programme. The visit sought to evaluate how beneficiaries are utilising the UGX 1 million PDM funds and the progress made since receiving the support.
During the monitoring exercise, Tamale established that Ochendi had invested the entire UGX 1 million in purchasing fertilisers for his coffee plantation, a decision that has boosted the productivity of his crop and steadily increased his daily income as coffee yields continue to improve.
Ochendi explained that before receiving the PDM support, he struggled to afford quality farm inputs, which affected both the quantity and quality of his harvests. He said the government intervention enabled him to properly maintain his coffee garden, resulting in healthier plants and better production.
“The money came at the right time because I used it to buy fertilisers for my coffee. Today, I am earning better income as production continues to increase. I can now meet some of my family’s needs with greater confidence,” Ochendi said.
He commended the government for introducing the Parish Development Model, describing it as a practical programme that has given ordinary Ugandans an opportunity to improve their livelihoods through productive investment rather than dependency.
Ochendi also appealed to fellow residents who have not yet embraced government initiatives to take advantage of programmes such as the Parish Development Model, saying they have the potential to transform household incomes when the funds are invested wisely.
Tamale welcomed the progress registered by the beneficiary, noting that such success stories demonstrate the importance of proper utilisation of PDM funds.
He encouraged beneficiaries to continue investing in sustainable income generating activities that can improve household welfare and contribute to local economic growth.
The ONC has continued conducting monitoring exercises across different parts of the country to assess the implementation of the Parish Development Model, identify challenges facing beneficiaries, and document success stories that reflect the programme’s contribution to poverty alleviation and wealth creation at the household level.
