By Gad Masereka
The Islamic Development Bank has awarded a massive contract worth $9.1 million (UGX 34 billion) to VCON Construction (U) Limited, a well-known civil engineering company and a subsidiary of the Ruparelia Group, to build cutting-edge infrastructure at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) main campus in Mbale.
The famed Islamic University in Mbale will get a 500-bed hostel and a cutting-edge engineering faculty thanks to a development project by VCON.
The project’s contract was signed last week (August 2, 2023) at the IUIU Kampala Campus in Kibuli in the presence of the Vcon Directors, who were represented by Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia, the managing director of the Ruparelia Group, and Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, the chairman of the Ruparelia Group. Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, the principal of the IUIU, represented the IUIU.
Speaking following the signing, Prof. Gyagenda stressed the project’s delayed position and compelled the contractor to follow the set deadline, requirements, and standards for completion.
Prof. Gyagenda stated, “This project is very important as science and technology are the drivers of growth in our country and throughout the entire world,” before pleading with the contractor to adhere to the set requirements and standards.
The contractors, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia on behalf of VCON, informed the Islamic University that the project would be completed on schedule and to the highest possible standards. Our company currently has 11 active construction projects, and this one will be added with adequate technical capacity, according to Dr. Sudhir.
According to the conditions of the contract, the project should be finished in 15 months.
