Ykee Benda has raised the alarm over the current state of the local music industry, expressing deep concern about its noticeable decline in vibrancy.

In a TV interview, the Mpaka Records boss revealed that many artists, including himself, have turned to other ventures like farming due to the instability and challenges in the music scene.

Artists have resorted to other businesses such as farming. This is one of the reasons the industry isn’t as vibrant as it used to be.

While he admits that he hasn’t fully pinpointed the root cause, Ykee Benda says he is actively researching and observing the situation to understand what’s really going wrong.

We even talk about it amongst ourselves—something is wrong with the industry. There’s a serious problem going on, but I haven’t fully grasped it to explain it on camera. I’m researching on it. May God help us as an industry, we have a problem.

Despite keeping a relatively clean public profile and steering clear of controversies and beefs, Ykee also acknowledged that ongoing feuds and divisions among artists could be worsening the situation.
