ONC Monitoring Uncovers Inspiring PDM Success in Bombo Town Council

A Parish Development Model beneficiary in Luweero District has credited the government programme with transforming her family’s economic situation after investing the UGX 1 million grant capital she received in 2024 into poultry and farming, according to findings from a monitoring exercise conducted by the Office of the National Chairman.

The monitoring visit was carried out recently by Luweero ONC District Coordinator Aminah Hassan at Lutamandwa Village in Gangama Parish, Bombo Town Council, where beneficiary Mrs Rehma Juma shared how the project has improved her household income, food security, and children’s education.

Mrs Juma, a resident of Lutamandwa Village, said she received the PDM funds in 2024 and chose to invest them in local poultry keeping alongside crop farming, a decision she says has steadily transformed her family’s livelihood.

She explained that the venture has grown to include 50 local birds and 30 ducks, creating a reliable source of both food and income.

She noted that 15 of her birds are kroiler chickens that are already laying eggs, enabling her to earn money through daily sales to nearby shops while also setting aside some eggs for hatching to expand her flock. The gradual increase in the number of birds, she said, has given her confidence that the enterprise will continue growing in the coming months.

“My financial situation was very difficult before I received the PDM money, but today I am able to earn about UGX 200,000 every month from my farming activities. I sell eggs, hatch chicks to increase my stock, and my family is living much better than before,” Mrs Juma said.

Beyond poultry, she said her banana plantation has become another important pillar of the family’s livelihood. The plantation provides food for the household while generating additional income that has enabled her to pay school fees for her children and meet other domestic needs without struggling as she did previously.

Mrs Juma praised the Parish Development Model for empowering ordinary households, especially women, to become financially independent through productive investment. She said the programme has restored hope to many families that previously lacked access to affordable capital, urging fellow beneficiaries to invest wisely so they can achieve similar results.

During the monitoring exercise, Luweero ONC District Coordinator Aminah Hassan encouraged beneficiaries to remain committed to productive enterprises and continue using the government funds for their intended purpose.

She emphasized that regular monitoring is intended to assess progress, offer guidance where necessary, and ensure that the programme delivers lasting benefits to communities.

The success recorded by Mrs Juma reflects the growing impact of the Parish Development Model across Luweero District, where beneficiaries who have invested in agriculture and livestock are steadily improving household incomes and strengthening food security.

Her experience stands as a practical example of how strategic investment of the PDM grant capital can create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the government’s broader goal of lifting households into the money economy.
