PDM Funds Turn Luweero Beneficiary Into Successful Poultry Farmer, ONC Monitoring Shows

A Parish Development Model beneficiary in Luweero District has attributed the steady growth of her poultry enterprise to government grant capital received under the programme, saying the support has enabled her to expand production, generate a reliable income, and improve her household’s livelihood.

The progress emerged during a recent monitoring exercise conducted by the Office of the National Chairman in Luweero District, where ONC District Coordinator Aminah Hassan visited beneficiaries to assess how the funds are being utilised and the impact they are creating at the grassroots.

Among the beneficiaries visited was Mrs Mariam Biringi, 51, a resident of Butambuza Village in Nakatonya Parish, Nyimbwa Sub County, who shared how she has transformed two rounds of PDM funding into a thriving poultry business. She explained that the monitoring exercise provided an opportunity for beneficiaries to account for the funds received while demonstrating the progress they have made through their investments.

Biringi said she received her first PDM funding of UGX 1 million in 2023 and chose to invest it in poultry and crop farming. The venture yielded encouraging returns, enabling her to construct two poultry houses from the profits while successfully repaying the money, making her eligible for the programme’s second phase.

“I started with the first million shillings in 2023 and invested it in poultry and farming. The project performed well, and the profits helped me build two poultry houses. I also managed to repay the money, which allowed me to qualify for the second phase,” she said.

She added that she received another UGX 1 million in 2025 and decided to channel the entire amount into expanding her poultry enterprise by rearing layers. According to Biringi, the decision has proved worthwhile because poultry farming has become her most dependable source of income.

She currently owns a total of 400 birds, with 200 already laying eggs while the remaining flock is being prepared for production. Every day, the laying birds produce between six and ten trays of eggs, which she sells to earn income that helps her meet household expenses and purchase poultry feeds.

“The poultry project has changed my life. The eggs provide me with daily income, and I no longer struggle to buy feeds because the business supports itself. I also get manure from the birds, which I sell and sometimes share with my neighbours to improve their gardens,” she said.

Biringi described her experience under the Parish Development Model as rewarding, noting that she has no regrets about joining the programme because it has strengthened her economic position and given her confidence to continue expanding her enterprise.

During the monitoring exercise, Luweero District ONC Coordinator Aminah Hassan encouraged beneficiaries to invest prudently, remain committed to productive ventures, and ensure they repay the funds so that other eligible households can also benefit from the revolving programme.

The visit formed part of the Office of the National Chairman’s ongoing monitoring of PDM projects across communities to assess progress, encourage accountability, and document success stories demonstrating how government support is helping households build sustainable sources of income and improve their standards of living.
