Three Dead in Kyankwanzi as Mob Kills Suspects Over Woman’s Decomposing Body
Kyankwanzi District, Uganda – March 21, 2026
A gruesome incident in Kyankwanzi District has left three people dead after an enraged mob lynched two men suspected to have been involved in the death of a woman whose decomposing body was discovered in their house.
The shocking occurred in Kiryanongo Village, where residents turned violent after allegedly finding the remains of a missing woman inside the suspects’ residence.
According to Uganda Police Force spokesperson for Wamala region, Lameck Kigozi, the deceased suspects have been identified as Ssemasaka and Hakiza Damaseni, both adult males of Rwandan origin.
Police reports indicate that the body recovered from the house is believed to be that of Vensi, a resident of Nakabugo Village, who had earlier been reported missing under unclear circumstances.
Residents reportedly became suspicious after noticing a persistent foul smell coming from the suspects’ home.
Their concerns led them to force entry into the house, where they allegedly discovered the decomposing body, triggering anger and panic within the community.
In the ensuing chaos, the two suspects were attacked and killed by the mob before authorities could arrive at the scene.
The incident was later reported to police at Bananywa Police Station by local leaders, prompting immediate deployment of officers to the area.
Security personnel, led by the District Police Commander of Kyankwanzi District, documented the scene and launched investigations into what authorities have described as a suspected murder case compounded by mob justice.
All three bodies were conveyed to Ntwetwe Health Centre IV for post-mortem examinations to establish the exact causes of death.
Police have strongly condemned the act of mob justice, warning that such actions undermine the rule of law and could lead to wrongful killings.
“We urge the public to remain calm and always report suspected criminals to police instead of resorting to violence,” Kigozi said.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances under which the woman died and to identify any other individuals who may have been involved.
