Culture Takes Centre Stage as KPS Pupils Celebrate Uganda’s Diversity
Kampala Parents’ School turned into a colourful display of tradition and identity on Saturday as pupils, parents and teachers gathered for Cultural Day celebrations aimed at strengthening appreciation of Uganda’s diverse heritage.
Businessman and philanthropist Dr Sudhir Ruparelia joined the school community as pupils showcased different cultural traditions while the institution prepared to close its second term.
The celebrations brought learning beyond the classroom, with children using performances and cultural presentations to demonstrate the customs and identities that make up Uganda’s rich social fabric.
For the pupils, the event provided an opportunity to present their heritage with pride. For parents and teachers, it offered a reminder of the role schools can play in ensuring that children grow up understanding the traditions and communities from which they come.
The occasion also highlighted the importance of cultural education at a time when young people are increasingly exposed to global influences and rapidly changing lifestyles.
School activities of this nature, organisers said, help learners appreciate their own backgrounds while developing respect for cultures different from their own.
The school commended the pupils, parents and staff whose participation made the event a success and said the celebrations reflected its wider commitment to nurturing learners beyond academic achievement.
By bringing together the different traditions represented within its community, Kampala Parents’ School used the end of term gathering to underline a broader message that Uganda’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths.
As the pupils headed into the holiday, they left with more than memories of colourful costumes and performances. The celebration reinforced the idea that preserving culture begins with helping the next generation understand, respect and take pride in the heritage they will one day carry forward.
