Vice President Alupo Unopposed in NRM Parish Polls

Katakwi, Uganda – May 2025
Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, the Vice President of Uganda, has been elected unopposed as the Chairperson of the NRM Veterans League in Aketa Parish, Ongongoja Sub County, Katakwi District.
Alupo was declared duly elected by Parish Registrar Moses Otim during the NRM party parish structure elections held this morning. She will be deputized by Charles Amaitum.
Community Trust and Unity
Facing no challenger for the seat, Alupo celebrated the moment as a symbol of unity and trust from her community. She expressed excitement over the confidence placed in her by local NRM supporters and extended gratitude to the 210 NRM members from the seven villages that make up Aketa Parish for entrusting her with the leadership role.
“I am committed to giving my all to advance our party, ensuring it grows in strength and ideology. I also pledge to advocate for issues affecting veterans,” she told the crowd, which responded with applause and chants.

Strengthening Party Structures
The Vice President emphasized that the NRM parish elections, taking place across Uganda, aim to fill 30 positions as part of the party’s grassroots reorganization efforts. These structures are seen as critical for mobilizing support ahead of future national elections and ensuring the effective implementation of government programs.
Alupo praised the peaceful voting process, noting that community members freely selected their leaders without interference.
Local Development Initiatives
During the event, Alupo outlined several ongoing development projects in Katakwi:
- Improved road infrastructure, reducing travel time between Katakwi and Soroti from over five hours to just 30 minutes.
- The use of a ferry on Lake Bisina and rehabilitation of the railway line from Busia to Congo, which will improve the transportation of goods.
- Construction of cement factories in Karamoja, expected to create employment opportunities for locals.

Economic and Social Empowerment
Alupo urged residents to embrace modern farming techniques, such as keeping heifers for milk production and raising Kroilers for egg production, to enhance household income and food security.
She emphasized the importance of education, urging parents to enroll their children in school, now that educational resources are more accessible in rural areas.
“Educating a child transforms livelihoods and opportunities,” Alupo noted.
Healthcare Expansion and Good Governance
Reiterating President Museveni’s initiative, Alupo assured residents that Katakwi District would be home to one of Uganda’s two specialized hospitals, providing advanced medical care to the local population.
She also warned against electoral malpractice, urging locals to reject bribery and instead focus on electing leaders who prioritize development.
Call for Peaceful Elections
As both Vice President and Katakwi District Woman MP, Alupo concluded by calling on residents to support government development programs such as:
- Parish Development Model (PDM)
- Emyooga Fund
- Youth Fund
- Women Fund
“These programs are designed to financially empower communities and improve livelihoods,” she emphasized.
She further called for peaceful 2026 elections in Katakwi and urged local leaders to sensitize communities on unity and peaceful coexistence.
