Sudhir Joins Hundreds at Kololo for Muhoozi’s 52nd Birthday Run
By Gad Masereka
Business magnate Dr Sudhir Ruparelia was among hundreds of Ugandans who turned out at Kololo Independence Grounds on Sunday morning to participate in the run organised to mark the 52nd birthday of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, lending the event the added energy of one of Uganda’s most recognisable figures in commerce and philanthropy.
The birthday run, which has grown into one of the most attended annual events on Kampala’s social calendar, drew participants from diverse backgrounds including politicians, business leaders, civil society figures, military personnel and ordinary citizens who came together in a show of goodwill and community spirit. Sudhir’s presence among the runners underscored the event’s broad appeal and the genuine cross-sector participation it continues to attract.
Dressed in the event’s official attire and moving through the grounds with the warmth and ease of a man comfortable among people of every station, Sudhir completed the run alongside fellow participants, drawing greetings and attention from those who recognised him. His participation was seen as a personal gesture of goodwill that carried both social and symbolic significance in a country where the relationship between its leading business figures and national institutions is closely watched.
Sudhir also used the occasion to present a UGX 100 million donation to the charity drive associated with the birthday celebrations, a contribution that organisers said would be directed toward community welfare programmes. The dual participation, both physical and financial, reflected an approach to civic engagement that has characterised his public presence for many years.
For the thousands who turned out at Kololo that Sunday morning, the birthday run was more than a physical exercise. It was an expression of unity and solidarity, and Sudhir’s presence in its midst was a reminder that Uganda’s most consequential community investments are often made not in boardrooms or press statements, but on the ground, alongside the people the investments are meant to serve.
