The annual meeting of senior officials at Speke Resort Munyonyo has commenced, with the event being officially opened by Gen. Jeje Odongo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Uganda. In his opening address, Odongo emphasized Uganda’s commitment to international cooperation, particularly through its participation in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The NAM, a group of countries that promote cooperation and mutual non-aggression, is an essential platform for Uganda’s diplomatic engagement with the international community.

In a significant development, Uganda’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Adonia Ayebare, has been elected as the Chair of NAM Senior officials. This appointment recognizes Uganda’s growing influence and Ayebare’s expertise in international affairs. As the Chair, Ayebare will play a crucial role in guiding and coordinating the activities of NAM Senior officials, fostering dialogue, and advancing the principles and objectives of the movement.

The senior officials meeting will continue tomorrow at Munyonyo, where important discussions on various regional and global issues are expected to take place. These deliberations will provide an opportunity for senior officials from participating countries to exchange views, share experiences, and forge common strategies on matters of collective interest. It is anticipated that these discussions will contribute to fostering mutual understanding and strengthening cooperation among NAM member states.

Parallel to the senior officials meeting, the East African Business Forum is set to take place at the Serena Hotel in Kampala. This forum aims to promote economic partnerships and investment opportunities within the East African region. As business leaders and policymakers gather, the forum will offer a platform for constructive dialogue, networking, and the exploration of avenues for collaboration.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to attend the East African Business Forum at Serena Hotel Kampala. Analysts say the ongoing meetings and forums reflect Uganda’s commitment to engaging with the international community and fostering regional cooperation.
