ONC Deploys 2,200 Grassroots Mobilisers Ahead of LC1 Elections
As Uganda prepares for the forthcoming Local Council One elections, the Office of the National Chairman has intensified its grassroots mobilisation campaign after deploying 2,200 mobilisers across the country to rally support for National Resistance Movement candidates and safeguard the party’s performance at the village level.
The mobilisation drive, launched on Monday 20th, July, 2026, under the leadership of ONC Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, targets the upcoming LC1 polls and follows similar efforts that preceded the recently concluded Women Council elections.
The team comprises ONC coordinators, members of various pressure groups, and representatives from the informal sector, who have been assigned to engage communities, encourage voter participation, and strengthen support for the ruling party at the grassroots. The initiative is aimed at reinforcing the NRM’s structures at village level, where local leadership plays a central role in community mobilisation and service delivery.

Addressing the mobilisers before their deployment, Hajjat Namyalo urged them to approach the assignment with commitment and discipline, reminding them that the same determination they demonstrated while campaigning for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni should now be directed towards securing victory in the LC1 elections.
“We must remain focused and continue reaching every village because strong grassroots leadership is the foundation of our movement. Work with the same energy and commitment that delivered results for President Museveni and ensure that our candidates emerge victorious,” she said.

Hajjat Namyalo also expressed appreciation to President Museveni, who doubles as the National Chairman of the NRM, for providing financial support that enabled the mobilisation exercise. She said the facilitation reflects the party leadership’s continued commitment to strengthening grassroots structures and ensuring effective engagement with communities ahead of the elections.
She noted that sustained mobilisation remains critical in consolidating the achievements of the NRM and maintaining close interaction with wananchi, adding that village leadership forms the first point of contact between government programmes and ordinary citizens.
Speaking on behalf of the deployed teams, the mobilisers thanked Hajjat Namyalo for the facilitation and confidence placed in them, pledging to work tirelessly across their respective areas to secure victory for NRM candidates in the LC1 elections.
“We appreciate the support and trust the leadership has shown us. We are returning to our communities ready to mobilise every eligible voter and ensure the NRM wins the LC1 positions,” one of the coordinators said.
The deployment comes at a time when political parties are intensifying campaigns ahead of the village elections, which are widely regarded as the foundation of Uganda’s local governance system.
Analysts have often described the polls as a key test of organisational strength because they determine the effectiveness of grassroots structures that support community leadership, government programmes, and future electoral mobilisation.
For the Office of the National Chairman, the latest deployment signals a renewed emphasis on direct engagement with communities as the ruling party seeks to consolidate its grassroots support and strengthen its organisational presence ahead of the LC1 elections.
