Karenga Begins Preparations for National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign

KARENGA — Karenga District has launched preparations for the national Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign, with district stakeholders meeting to coordinate efforts to reach eligible children across the district.
The September 18, 2026, inception and task force meeting was chaired by Deputy Resident District Commissioner Kedi Ronald Ongodia and brought together key district stakeholders involved in planning and implementing the vaccination exercise.
The meeting aimed to officially launch district preparations, clarify stakeholders’ roles and strengthen coordination ahead of the campaign.
The national campaign is scheduled for October 1–5, 2026, and is targeting more than 7.4 million children aged one to five years across Uganda. The exercise is intended to close immunisation gaps and strengthen protection against measles and rubella.
Karenga’s preparations come as Uganda continues to respond to measles outbreaks, with Karenga among districts that have previously reported cases of the disease.
During the meeting, stakeholders focused on preparations including community mobilisation, sensitisation and coordination to ensure eligible children are reached during the campaign.
The district task force is expected to work with health workers, local leaders, Village Health Teams and other community structures to mobilise parents and caregivers and promote uptake of the vaccine.
Effective mobilisation will be critical to ensuring that children across Karenga benefit from the campaign and that gaps in protection against measles and rubella are reduced.
