Paradise Island Resort: How Sudhir Ruparelia Is Positioning Uganda for High-End Global Tourism
Business magnate Sudhir Ruparelia is expanding his presence in Uganda’s high-end hospitality sector with the completion of Paradise Island Resort, a luxury development under the Speke Group of Hotels that is scheduled to open its doors in April 2026.
The project is intended to strengthen Uganda’s broader tourism offering, positioning the country to draw premium leisure travellers, destination weddings, corporate retreats and high-spending international visitors who might otherwise look elsewhere in the region.
Located approximately twenty minutes by speedboat from Speke Resort Munyonyo on the shores of Lake Victoria, the property has been conceived as an exclusive island retreat aimed at honeymooners, private holidaymakers and executive groups in search of privacy, tranquillity and a genuinely secluded experience.
Construction began on May 1, 2021, as part of the Ruparelia Group’s wider push to build up both domestic and international tourism infrastructure, blending contemporary luxury with the natural scenery of the island setting.
What started as a 22-unit development expanded significantly after strong demand projections prompted a second phase, adding a further 16 units to the property.
The Completed Resort Now Features:
• 10 Standard Cottages
• 11 Standard Cliff Hanger Cottages with panoramic Lake Victoria views
• 14 Deluxe Two-Bedroom Cottages
• 3 Executive Villas designed for maximum privacy and premium comfort
Set across 19 acres, the resort sits alongside a rocky island rich in indigenous tree species and home to substantial bird populations, a feature expected to draw nature lovers and birdwatching enthusiasts in particular.
Paradise Island adds to a growing portfolio of hospitality investments under the Ruparelia Group, which also includes ongoing expansion work at Kabira Country Club, the Speke Resort Convention Centre, Kingdom Hotel and Ssese Beach Resort, all part of a sustained effort to widen the range of high-end tourism experiences the country can offer.
