Sudhir’s Paradise Island Resort Counts Down to June Debut on Lake Victoria

The Ruparelia Group is putting the finishing touches to its flagship Paradise Island Resort on Lake Victoria, with the luxury retreat poised to throw open the doors of its first phase before the end of June.

Work on the island has gathered pace in recent weeks as crews push to beat the deadline, and one of the resort’s signature features, a 500-metre man-made beach, is now within touching distance of completion.
People familiar with the project say excavation for the beach has already been finished, leaving only the hauling and spreading of sand along the shoreline to bring to life a lakeside leisure space unlike any other on the lake.

The beach is expected to become the resort’s centrepiece, offering visitors a carefully curated waterfront where relaxation, sweeping views and a tropical feel come together in a single island setting.

Developed by Ugandan billionaire Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, the resort sits on a private 19-acre island roughly twenty minutes by speedboat from Speke Resort Munyonyo, and has been conceived as a high-end hospitality destination.

Its accommodation ranges from standard cottages to cliff-hanger cottages, deluxe two-bedroom cottages and executive villas, each positioned to make the most of the views across the water.

The development ranks among the most ambitious private tourism investments ever attempted on Lake Victoria and reflects a growing appetite to brand Uganda as a premium leisure destination in the region.

Final preparations have also seen a custom-built barge deployed to service the island, a vessel expected to prove vital in ferrying construction materials and operational supplies during the closing stretch of works.

Those close to the project say the June launch will usher in phased operations, allowing guests to enjoy selected facilities while the remaining components are completed.

For the Ruparelia Group, Paradise Island represents a deliberate bet on redefining luxury tourism in Uganda while drawing on the natural allure of Lake Victoria, a venture expected to lift the wider hospitality sector by reeling in both local and international travellers in search of an exclusive island escape.

With finishing touches under way and the resort’s headline features taking shape, Paradise Island is firmly on course for its long-awaited unveiling in June.
