In a shocking incident that unfolded on Wednesday morning in Kabalagala, Kampala, a 24-year-old barber, Arnold Senkungu, and his 21-year-old lover, Shina Atwine, a student, were discovered dead in their residence following a violent altercation.

According to the Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the gruesome discovery was made by their neighbor, Sserunjoji Frank, who heard disturbing sounds emanating from the couple’s residence in Mosque Zone, Kibuli Parish, Makindye Division. Concerned for their safety, neighbors forcefully entered the apartment to find Senkungu alive but severely injured, while Atwine lay lifeless with a deep neck wound.

Senkungu, who was rushed to Kibuli Hospital, ultimately succumbed to his injuries, adding a tragic twist to the unfolding story of domestic violence. The police have since classified the case as a homicide, and initial investigations have revealed a grim scene of struggle in the couple’s residence.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Owoyesigyire detailed the swift response by law enforcement and the homicide unit, emphasizing the discovery of a new knife at the scene, stained with fresh blood. Witness statements have become crucial in piecing together the sequence of events leading to the fatal outcome.

Senkungu, reportedly bearing multiple injuries, hinted at a troubled marriage, suggesting a history of conflicts between the couple. Further complicating the narrative, Atwine had allegedly confided in a friend about mistreatment, raising concerns of premeditation as she had recently acquired a new knife.

“The motive of the murder is still under investigation, and more details will be availed as soon as possible,” stated ASP Owoyesigyire, underscoring the complexities surrounding the case.

The bodies of the ill-fated couple currently rest at City Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination that may shed more light on the circumstances leading to their tragic demise. As the community grapples with the shocking news, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the underlying issues of domestic violence that continue to plague societies. The police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they work diligently to unravel the full story behind this heartbreaking incident.
