Kayunga, Uganda — April 9, 2026 — A Kayunga-based couple has raised alarm after their newborn went missing from the maternity ward of Kayunga Hospital, prompting an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

The parents, who had delivered the baby at the facility last week, allege serious lapses in hospital security and patient care, claiming that staff failed to safeguard their child.

Their concerns have been echoed by local officials, who described the incident as “deeply troubling” and called for accountability.

Police have opened an investigation into the case, with officers reportedly reviewing hospital records, interviewing staff, and examining security footage to determine the baby’s whereabouts.

The probe is ongoing, and authorities have assured the public that no stone will be left unturned.

Community members and health advocates have also expressed concern over the incident, highlighting the need for stricter monitoring of hospital maternity wards across the country to prevent similar cases in the future.

Kayunga Hospital management has acknowledged the incident but has not provided detailed public statements, citing the ongoing investigation.

Officials, however, have emphasized their commitment to cooperating fully with the police to resolve the matter.

This case has reignited debates about hospital accountability and newborn safety in Uganda, with many calling for reforms to strengthen child protection measures within health facilities.
