Gulu, Uganda: The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has arrived in Gulu to assess ongoing Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) operations in the region, with a key focus on cross-border deployments in South Sudan and Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Gen Kainerugaba was received at the 4th Infantry Division headquarters by Division Commander Maj Gen Felix Busizoori and other senior UPDF officers.
His visit, now in its second day, involved strategic meetings and troop engagements aimed at reviewing field operations and reinforcing discipline among soldiers.
The CDF was briefed by Maj Gen Busizoori and brigade commanders on the security situation and progress of UPDF-led operations in volatile areas, including South Sudan and Eastern DRC, where Ugandan troops have been supporting peace and stability efforts.
Maj Gen Keith Katungi, commander of the neighbouring 5th Division, also attended the meeting, signaling coordinated command between northern and eastern fronts.
Later in the day, Gen Kainerugaba addressed soldiers stationed at the 4th Division base, congratulating recent recruits and encouraging all personnel to uphold the UPDF’s legacy of discipline.
“You have joined a noble institution,” he said. “Remain disciplined in all that you do, and take care of your health and fitness as frontline fighters.”
His visit comes amid heightened regional security operations and internal scrutiny over unresolved domestic security matters, including ongoing tensions over land conflicts in Acholi sub-region.
