KAMPALA — As conversations around youth empowerment, innovation, and African-led transformation continue to grow, Next Media Group CEO Kin Kariisa is increasingly emerging as one of the continent’s most admired business leaders among young entrepreneurs.

One of those inspired by Kariisa’s leadership journey is Nyanzi Martin Luther, a young entrepreneur and media enthusiast who says the Next Media boss represents the kind of visionary leadership Africa needs to produce more often.

Speaking about Kariisa’s influence on young people pursuing careers in media, business, and communications, Nyanzi described the media executive as a symbol of modern African leadership built on innovation, institution building, and long-term impact.

Kin Kariisa inspires me because he has shown that an African CEO can build institutions that transform lives and compete at a high level,” Nyanzi said.

“His leadership is not only about business success but also about empowering young people and investing in the future.”

Kin Kariisa is the Group Chief Executive Officer of Next Media, one of Uganda’s largest and most influential multimedia companies. Since taking charge of NBS TV in 2008, he has overseen the growth of the company into a diversified media empire with more than 22 brands.

The brands include NBS TV, Sanyuka TV, Salam TV, NBS Sport, Next Radio, Nile Post, and several production and digital media platforms that have reshaped Uganda’s broadcasting and online media landscape.

Under Kariisa’s leadership, Next Media has positioned itself as a youth-driven and innovation-focused company through its “Inform to Transform” philosophy, which emphasizes impactful journalism, digital growth, and community engagement.

Nyanzi believes one of Kariisa’s strongest achievements has been creating opportunities for young people within the media and creative industry at a time when unemployment remains a major challenge across Africa.

Through initiatives such as Next Creata, Next Media has supported young creatives, content producers, and digital storytellers by equipping them with skills, mentorship, and exposure to wider audiences.

“Many young people now believe they can succeed in media and digital business because leaders like Kin Kariisa have created platforms that support talent and innovation,” Nyanzi said.

“That kind of leadership creates confidence in the next generation.”Beyond media expansion, Kariisa has also become known for promoting responsible storytelling, digital transformation, and strategic corporate leadership.

He currently serves as Chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters and has previously served on the board of Ecobank Uganda.

He recently joined the board of Standard Chartered Uganda, further strengthening his influence in the corporate sector.

A Harvard-trained strategist and Stanford Seed alumnus, Kariisa is often viewed by young professionals as part of a rising generation of African executives capable of building globally competitive institutions while maintaining strong local roots.

Nyanzi said many young entrepreneurs across Africa are now looking beyond politics and entertainment for inspiration, increasingly turning their attention to business leaders creating lasting economic and social impact.

“Africa needs more CEOs who think beyond profit and focus on transformation,” he said. “Kin Kariisa has shown that leadership can create opportunities, inspire innovation, and empower communities at the same time.”

As Africa’s youthful population continues searching for role models in entrepreneurship and leadership, figures like Kin Kariisa are becoming examples of how private sector innovation can help shape the continent’s future.
