Kotido’s leading radio station, Eko FM, in partnership with members of the community, on Tuesday carried out a corporate social responsibility activity at Kotido General Hospital aimed at improving sanitation and supporting patients.

The initiative involved cleaning various sections of the hospital, including the compound, offices, maternity ward, children’s ward, and the general ward. The team also donated food and non-food items such as sugar and soap valued at approximately 1 million shillings.

The donation benefited 40 children, 18 mothers, and 33 patients in the general ward, as well as attendants and some health workers present during the distribution.

Speaking during the handover, Eko FM manager Steven Okech Adingdong said the activity reflects the station’s commitment to giving back to the community it serves. He noted that this was the second such initiative by the radio station within a month, describing it as a demonstration of care and solidarity with vulnerable groups.

“We are doing this to show our love and support to those in need, especially mothers in the maternity ward,” Adingdong said.

Kotido General Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Gabriel Acheboi, welcomed the gesture, emphasizing that improving healthcare services requires collaboration between health workers and other stakeholders.

“I thank Eko FM and the community for their support towards better service delivery. As health workers, we value a clean environment for a healthy population,” he said.

Dr. Gabriel Tubo also appreciated the initiative, noting the importance of community involvement in supporting healthcare services.

Hospital cleaner Maria Opondi Kotyang said staff regularly clean the facility twice daily but expressed concern over continued littering by some patients and attendants.

Among the beneficiaries, Mary Lodou and her husband Paul Loluk, who recently welcomed a new child, expressed joy after receiving soap and sugar. They said the support came at a moment of great need.

Community volunteers also took part in the exercise. Rebecca Adula said she joined in fulfillment of her belief in serving others, while Mary Stella Akot said she participated in solidarity with the sick, noting that anyone could one day require similar assistance.

The activity highlighted growing collaboration between media, community members, and health workers in improving sanitation and patient welfare at Kotido General Hospital.
