The National Unity Platform NUP, through its secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya and Nubian Lee and other party members have checked on the NUP’s coordinators who were arrested few weeks back by security personnel’s.
According to the social media post, posted by the secretary general of the national unity platform Lewis, said, ‘Today, we spent the day in Kasese checking on five NUP mobilisers who were arrested several weeks back.”
The five arrested coordinators are Bryan Basisa (the NUP Kasese district chairperson), Geoffrey Bwambale (NUP coordinator for Bundibugyo), Atanazio Isanat (NUP coordinator from Ntoroko district), Isaac Mumbere and Oninzi Kule.
”These comrades were found at the home of our district chairperson and rounded up by the police and military. They were then charged with conspiracy to commit a felony- the felony in this case being treason,” Lewis posted.
According to Rubongoya, ”The five are being detained at Mubuku Prison Farm in Kasese District. We were very delighted to find them very strong in spirit despite their illegal detention. We also met with the lawyer handling the matter and he briefed us on the status of the case, The comrades know that they committed no offence whatsoever. They are simply being persecuted for believing that change is possible. We shall continue to do our best to ensure that they get out of illegal detention very soon,”.
”Also, five years ago today, darkness covered our nation. The Ugandan regime descended on citizens and killed over 150 of them in Kasese District and the surrounding districts. Those who were murdered included women and children, To date, there has been no justice for the victims of such heinous crimes. It was therefore a sombre moment as we passed by the Palace of Rwenzururu Kingdom where most of the massacre took place, The Palace which was once magnificent now lies desolate- all that is left are the bullet holes left in the walls Lewis added in his post.
”As they say, the teeth may smile, but the heart does not forget. The population is clearly hurting and a cloud of fear hangs over them. One day, God willing, there will be justice for all victims of these crimes against humanity. May the victims’ souls continue resting in peace”.
