Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni on Friday, June 13, 2025, held a strategic meeting with the German Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Matthias Schauer, at State Lodge Nakasero, on the exact day members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) staged a protest outside the German Embassy in Kampala.
Although the State House did not directly comment on the protest, the meeting came amid rising scrutiny of Western diplomatic postures in Uganda’s internal affairs. Sources described the engagement as “constructive and forward-looking.”
According to an official statement by the President on Saturday morning, the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, investment, technology, and sports development.
“Last evening, I met with His Excellency Matthias Schauer, the German Ambassador to Uganda. We had a productive discussion regarding mutual interests between our countries. I welcome him.”
President Museveni emphasized the value of partnerships built on mutual respect and shared goals. He reiterated Uganda’s dedication to sustainable progress driven by industrialization and human capital development.
Ambassador Schauer expressed gratitude for the cordial reception and praised the ongoing dialogue between both nations and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to strengthening ties with Uganda, particularly in development cooperation and business investment.
Germany remains one of Uganda’s top European partners, supporting programs in energy, vocational training, refugee integration, and governance.
