Mbale City, Uganda: The National Coordinator for Emyooga and PDM consultant for Eastern Region, Ms Ritah Namuwenge, has officially joined the race for the Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament seat after expressing interest to contest under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
Namuwenge picked her nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala on Thursday, June 5, joining a growing field of aspirants eyeing the hotly contested seat in the party’s July 16 primaries.
Addressing reporters shortly after the form pick-up, Namuwenge vowed to champion inclusive and people-centered leadership, rooted in grassroots mobilization and community engagement.
“I have come so we move together, village to village, parish to parish, and ghetto to ghetto, to ensure we win this election, have a strong voice in Parliament, and lobby for the transformation of Mbale City,” she said.
Namuwenge emphasized that her experience with national empowerment programs like Emyooga and the PDM equips her with the tools needed to transform Mbale City’s social and economic sectors. She pledged to amplify marginalized voices and push for increased government service delivery in urban and peri-urban areas.
She also made a direct appeal to her rivals in the party to rally behind her candidacy for the greater good of the party and city.
“This is the time for us to put people first. I ask my fellow contenders to allow me to lead this race. I have the experience, networks, and vision to solve the challenges facing our people,” Namuwenge stated.
The NRM party primaries in Mbale City are expected to draw stiff competition as more candidates declare interest in one of the region’s most politically significant seats. The current Woman MP is yet to formally confirm if she will seek re-election.
