Bugisu NRM Youth form regional caucus to champion youth agenda

Mbale City, Uganda: Youth leaders from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party across the Bugisu sub-region have installed a new regional caucus leadership, signaling a renewed drive for youth unity, lobbying capacity, and political agency.

The leaders, drawn from Namisindwa, Manafwa, Sironko, Bududa, Bulambuli, and Mbale City, met over the weekend at Roxy Hotel in Senior Quarters, Mbale City, where they unanimously elected Nimrod Kakayi, the NRM Youth Chairperson for Namisindwa District, as the Regional Chairperson for Bugisu.

Kakayi was joined by a team of fellow youth leaders in key positions, including: Vice Chairperson: Gilbert Mawarara (Manafwa), Secretary for Finance: Isaac Masumba (Sironko), Publicity Secretary: Mike Khayendekhe (Mbale District), Spokesperson: Jossy Wamboko (Bududa), Chief Coordinator: Derrick Trapzium (Bulambuli), and the General Secretary: Pius Modde (Mbale City).

In his inaugural address, Kakayi emphasized unity and transformation, challenging the long-standing perception of youth leaders as mere mobilizers for older politicians.

“We must stop being viewed as campaign machines. It’s time we united to build a strong collective voice that can lobby for services and recognition from the top leadership,” Kakayi said, committing to steer the caucus toward its core mission of lobbying, mobilization, and advocacy for youth development across Bugisu.

Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa Male Youth Councilor, encouraged the newly elected team to focus on mobilizing fellow youth and pushing for space within the political and development spheres.

“We must fight for space, broaden the youth agenda, and be seen at the decision-making table, not just as supporters but as contributors to Uganda’s growth,” Bwayo noted.

The Bugisu NRM Youth Leaders Caucus is expected to operate as a united front for young people within the region’s political framework, coordinating efforts with the national youth leadership of the party and relevant government ministries.
