I’m Ready To Unseat Museveni In 2026- Jimmy Akena
By Gad Masereka
The president of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Jimmy Patrick Akena, has declared his ambition to alter the country’s top management. During a weekend mobilization drive conducted at Apac Boma Ground in Apac municipality, he made this declaration.
The late Apollo Milton Obote, who was instrumental in Uganda’s struggle for independence, is the father of Akena, who currently serves as the representative for Lira East City Division in parliament. The first Prime Minister and President of the nation was Obote.
In response to requests from his fans to run for president in the future elections in 2026, Akena declared himself ready for the upcoming task.
But he highlighted the vital importance of maintaining unity both within the party and throughout all of Uganda. Akena emphasized that in order to accomplish their shared objectives and be ready for the change they are seeking, UPC leaders must collaborate effectively.
Akena urged his followers to understand that winning elections depends on active participation at the polls by citing the recent Oyam North by-election as an example.
He also delivered a severe warning to political figures, urging them not to put their own interests ahead of the welfare of the populace in their quest for power. He highlighted the value of servant leadership and prioritized the needs of the general public.
Akena’s thoughts were mirrored by Chris Ongom, the UPC Regional Voice, who urged all party officials to settle intra-party conflicts in advance of the 2019 elections.
Earlier in the day, a number of UPC leaders publicly urged their party’s president to run for president. They said that Uganda had lost the splendor it had under the late Apollo Milton Obote’s leadership and that only the UPC party could bring stability and advancement back to the nation.
The Alebtong district chairperson, David Kennedy Odongo, urged Ugandans to support the UPC during the 2026 General Elections by highlighting that it offers a better path forward.
Hundreds of supporters marched in a large procession starting at Kungu Ferry to welcome Akena to the Apac municipality. He visited his father’s grave along the way and spoke with fans at several rest stops.
