Sudhir Donates UGX 100 Million to Power Muhoozi Charity Drive
By Gad Masereka
Business magnate Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has donated UGX 100 million to support the charity component of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 52nd birthday celebrations, reinforcing his longstanding commitment to philanthropic initiatives that serve Uganda’s most vulnerable communities.
The donation, described by observers as among the most significant individual contributions to the birthday drive, was presented at Kololo Independence Grounds where thousands of Ugandans gathered on Sunday to mark the occasion. The funds are directed toward welfare and community support activities championed under the birthday’s charitable wing, which has in recent years grown to include health, education and livelihood programmes across various parts of the country.
Sudhir, who leads the Ruparelia Group, one of Uganda’s largest and most diversified conglomerates, has consistently aligned the Group’s philanthropic activities with national events and community development milestones. His UGX 100 million commitment to the Muhoozi drive follows a pattern of substantial giving that has included medical outreaches, educational support and disaster relief across Uganda.
Speaking at the event, Sudhir said supporting initiatives that benefit ordinary Ugandans was not merely an obligation but a reflection of the values that have guided the Ruparelia Group’s growth over the decades. He noted that Uganda’s progress depended on the collective commitment of its citizens and institutions to invest in the welfare of those who needed it most.
The contribution drew warm acknowledgement from organisers and participants alike, with many noting that Sudhir’s involvement lent the drive both financial credibility and a broader message about the role of the private sector in complementing government-led social programmes. For a business leader whose philanthropy has spanned hospitals, eye camps, educational institutions and community welfare, the Muhoozi donation adds another chapter to a giving record that has shaped lives across Uganda.
