Mpigi, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni Monday kicked off his Greater Mpigi leg of the Parish Development Model (PDM) tour, praising exemplary beneficiaries whose success stories reflect the potential of government-backed wealth creation programs.
During his field engagements in Mpigi, Gomba, and Butambala districts, the President shared personal commendations, spotlighting individual farmers transforming their livelihoods through poultry, coffee, and livestock enterprises funded under the PDM framework.
“I congratulate Hajji Mohammed Zziwa Katanyoreka, an established farmer in Mpigi District,” Museveni wrote on his official X account (formerly Twitter). “He manages 5 acres of land with 2,000 layer chickens, 1 acre of coffee intercropped with bananas, and 4 dairy cows. From poultry alone, Hajji earns UGX 550,000 daily, more than many in offices.”
The President reiterated that such discipline and planning align with the values championed by the ruling NRM party. Drawing from biblical metaphors, he likened Zziwa and his wife to “seeds that fell on good soil,” applauding their use of ekibalo (calculated planning) to translate policy into prosperity.
From Mpigi, Museveni proceeded to Lusenke Village in Gomba, where he visited Deborah Namutebi, a local farmer engaging in poultry, goat rearing, and banana cultivation.
“She exemplifies how the PDM can elevate families from subsistence living to participating in the money economy,” Museveni noted, adding that past programs like NAADS and Operation Wealth Creation laid the groundwork for today’s rural economic transformation under PDM.
In Butambala District, Museveni highlighted the progress of Namubiru Rashidah, a PDM beneficiary who started with goat rearing and has now expanded to coffee farming. She owns eight goats, with three expecting, and maintains an acre of coffee.
“This is a true testament to what we have been telling Ugandans all this time: fight poverty by engaging in wealth creation activities,” the President said.
He further emphasized the PDM’s revolving nature, urging beneficiaries to repay funds after 24 months to enable broader community access. “This money is not for the government—it is for the wananchi. Like Namubiru did, use that money and return it to your SACCO. We are considering increasing it to Shs200 million per parish.”
The Greater Mpigi visit is part of Museveni’s ongoing nationwide PDM tour, aimed at rallying grassroots mobilization around Uganda’s flagship poverty eradication initiative ahead of the 2026 elections.
