Gen. Muhoozi, Chinese Ambassador Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Kololo, Uganda – Yesterday, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, a prominent Ugandan military official and the son of President Yoweri Museveni, engaged in discussions with the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Zhang Lizhong, on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The meeting, held at the Chinese Embassy in Kololo, also served as an occasion to strengthen ties in trade and commerce.

During the discussions, Ambassador Zhang Lizhong underscored his commitment to bolstering the longstanding friendship between China and Uganda, with a particular focus on fostering increased opportunities in trade and commerce. Emphasizing the importance of mutual cooperation, the Chinese Ambassador stressed the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships and highlighted China’s interest in further investment in Uganda.

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba reciprocated the ambassador’s enthusiasm, expressing his appreciation for China’s ongoing support and interest in strengthening the existing bilateral ties. He conveyed Uganda’s eagerness to engage in further collaboration with China in various sectors, particularly in trade and commerce, where significant growth potential exists.

Both sides recognized the need for enhanced economic cooperation, with a shared determination to explore new avenues for trade and investment. It was highlighted that this collaboration would not only benefit the two nations, but also contribute to regional development and prosperity.

In recent years, China has become a vital trading partner for Uganda, with trade between the two countries consistently on the rise. This meeting presented an opportunity to discuss specific areas of trade that could be further explored, as well as strategies to overcome any existing obstacles.

The discussions also paved the way for exploring potential investment opportunities in key sectors such as infrastructure development, agriculture, energy, and manufacturing. Both Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Ambassador Zhang Lizhong expressed their commitment to fostering an enabling environment for Chinese investors in Uganda, including the provision of necessary support and incentives.

As the meeting concluded, both parties agreed to continue regular engagement to further strengthen the bilateral relationship, with a focus on concrete action plans and follow-ups. The discussions marked a significant step towards promoting economic growth and cooperation between Uganda and China, setting the stage for deeper collaboration and mutual prosperity in the years ahead.

With sustained efforts from both nations, this strengthened partnership has the potential to create numerous opportunities for increased trade, investment, and economic development, benefitting both Chinese and Ugandan citizens alike.
