By Hason Mutunzi Bwambale
The Republic of Uganda, in partnership with the African Union and esteemed development partners, is set to host the grand celebration of Africa Youth Day 2023. The event will take place on November 1, 2023, at the prestigious Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, Uganda.
Africa Youth Day is an annual occasion dedicated to honoring the resilience, creativity, and contributions of African youth to the socio-economic development of the continent. The theme for this year’s celebration is “1 Million Next Levels is Knocking: Youth-led Movements that Transcend Borders,” highlighting the importance of collective action in achieving the aspirations of Agenda 2063.
This significant event is made possible through the support of various development partners, including the European Union in Uganda, UNFPA Uganda, Plan International, Youth for Tax Justice Network Uganda, Habitat for Humanity, and the Africa Youth Federation. The National Youth Council of Uganda is also playing a crucial role in ensuring the success of Africa Youth Day 2023.
The festivities will encompass a series of engaging activities, panel discussions, workshops, and entertainment, all designed to empower and inspire young people to realize their full potential. Distinguished speakers and experts will participate in discussions covering topics such as education and skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, and social innovation. These discussions will contribute to the roadmap towards the unveiling of the African Union’s theme for 2024, focusing on building resilient and inclusive education.
The celebration aligns with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s commitment to youth engagement and support, providing platforms for youth development and national and continental progress. President Museveni’s launch of the 1 Million Next Level Initiative at the 3rd APRM Continental Youth Symposium in July 2022 set the stage for youth empowerment and development in Uganda and beyond. This initiative, endorsed by African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, seeks to provide a harmonized framework for continental youth development.
Africa Youth Day 2023 promises to be a momentous occasion filled with inspiration, knowledge-sharing, and a sense of unity among the youth. All young individuals, stakeholders, and organizations are encouraged to attend and be part of this celebration.
The organizers express their gratitude to the development partners, the African Union, and all those who have contributed to making this event possible. Together, they are working towards a brighter and more prosperous future for the youth of Africa.
