Kampala’s High Court has scheduled March 18, 2026 to deliver its ruling on the bail application of former Special Investigations Unit commandant, Nickson Agasirwe Karuhanga, accused of the 2015 murder of senior prosecutor Joan Namazzi Kagezi.

Justice Isaac Muwata presided over Thursday’s session and confirmed that submissions from both the defence and prosecution were already filed on the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS).

This online filing system allowed the court to proceed without requiring the presence of all parties.

The prosecution, represented by Chief State Attorney Richard Birivumbuka, was not in court due to other commitments.

Despite this, the judge ruled that an adjournment was unnecessary since all the necessary information for determining the bail application was on record.

Agasirwe remains in detention as the court awaits to decide whether he qualifies for temporary release pending trial.

The case continues to attract significant public attention, given Kagezi’s role in prosecuting terrorism and other high-profile criminal cases in Uganda.
