Kabanda Speaks Out as PLU Rivalries Explode Online
A fresh internal dispute has surfaced within the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), with senior member Kabanda breaking his silence after a wave of social media criticism that insiders say is linked to long-standing rivalries inside the organization.
The controversy, which gained momentum over the weekend, reportedly centers around disagreements involving a prominent PLU mobilizer identified as Cathy.
Online posts circulating across various platforms questioned internal decisions and revived earlier disagreements that had largely remained out of public view.
In a statement addressing supporters, Kabanda described the online campaign as “deliberate and coordinated,” arguing that it reflects unresolved tensions rather than genuine policy concerns.
“This is not about ideology or direction,” Kabanda said.
“It is about individuals choosing to fight internal battles in the public arena.”
Sources within PLU suggest that competition over influence and strategic positioning has intensified in recent months, particularly as political mobilization efforts gather pace nationally.
While Cathy has not issued a formal press statement, individuals close to her camp maintain that concerns raised online stem from frustrations over internal processes.
The developments have drawn attention beyond PLU, particularly among observers aligned with the National Resistance Movement (NRM), given the perceived proximity between the two formations.
Political analyst Henry Kasozi says the episode illustrates how internal political disagreements are increasingly playing out on digital platforms.
“Social media has changed the way factions operate,” Kasozi explained.
“Instead of private consultations, we now see narrative battles unfolding in real time.”Despite the public friction, PLU insiders insist the organization remains intact.
Efforts to mediate between competing camps are reportedly ongoing behind closed doors.Kabanda concluded his remarks by calling for unity and restraint.“Our mission is bigger than individual differences,” he said. “We must resolve disagreements through dialogue, not digital confrontation.”
Whether the latest dispute signals a temporary storm or deeper structural tension within PLU remains to be seen.
For now, however, Cathy’s name has become the focal point of a broader conversation about unity, leadership and loyalty within the organization.
