Pan-Africanist Edith Auma Installed As 57th Kampala West Rotary President

The Rotary Club of Kampala West has a new president after Pan-Africanist Edith Auma was on Wednesday installed as its 57th president at a ceremony held at Katikati Restaurant in Kampala, pledging to grow the club and deepen its reach into the surrounding community.

The colourful inauguration brought together Rotarians, civil society figures, and dignitaries from several organisations, among them members of the Pan African Pyramid, in what observers noted was one of the more symbolically charged handovers the club has seen in recent years.

Auma, who is a member of the Pan African Pyramid, a continental civic movement that promotes African unity, self-reliance, and people-centred development, takes charge of the club with a clear set of priorities.

Speaking shortly after taking the Oath, she told guests that growing the club’s membership and reaching deeper into the community would be central to her term, while also committing to address social welfare concerns affecting young girls, including access to basic sanitary needs.

“We want to grow this club and make it stronger. Service above self is not just a motto for us, it must be felt in the communities around us,” Auma said.

Among the dignitaries who graced the function was Andrew Irumba Katusabe, the Speaker of the Pan African Pyramid, whose presence drew particular attention given Auma’s own membership in the organisation and the growing relationship between Rotary’s local chapters and pan-Africanist movements across the continent.

“The Pan African Pyramid congratulates President Auma on this milestone. Her values of service and her commitment to African people, especially the most vulnerable, are the values we stand for,” Katusabe said. “We look forward to a partnership that puts communities first.”

The Rotary Club of Kampala West operates under Rotary International’s District 9211, which covers Uganda, Rwanda, and parts of Tanzania.
Founded on the principle of service above self, the club has over the decades been involved in health outreach, educational support, and community infrastructure projects across the Kampala metropolitan area.

The installation of a 57th president marks more than five decades of organised civic leadership under the Rotary banner in the western corridors of the capital.

The Pan African Pyramid has been steadily building its presence in Uganda and the wider East African region, engaging professionals, artists, and civic leaders around the agenda of African economic sovereignty and cultural pride.

Auma’s dual membership positions her at the intersection of two distinct but complementary traditions of public service, a fact that was not lost on guests at Katikati.

Rotarians and guests mingled with a sense that the club was entering a chapter defined as much by purpose as by tradition.

Auma’s presidency begins at a moment when civic organisations across Africa are being pressed to demonstrate that their programmes reach beyond ceremony and into the lives of ordinary people. Her opening address suggested she understood the weight of that expectation and intended to meet it.
