Get Ready For Your Future: UPDF Retires 93 Senior Officers
Officially, 93 top officers have been retired from their responsibilities by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
The retirees include 63 majors, 13 lieutenant colonels, and 17 officers with the rank of colonel.
Col. Godfrey Okello of the Apac District, the force’s oldest retiree with 42 years of service, praised his 42 years of service to the organization.
Col. Godfrey Okello remarked, “I thank God for our lives and service for all these time, and for our wives for bearing loneliness without us.
Col. Singahakye Bamanya, Col. Wilson Twesigye, Col. Apollo Mwasa, Col. Alfred Nangendo, Col. Christopher Mbazaki, and several more are additional colonel officers.
Patrick Katungi, Charles Mwesigye, Ismail Ssemiganda, Christopher Kabango Ndooli, and several more served as Lt. Col.
The presiding officer, the deputy Chief of Defense Forces Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, who represented the CDF, Gen. Mbasu Mbadi, applauded the retirees for their resilient service.
Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu added, “Many have not survived; at least for you today, you have seen yourself walk home with two legs.
“You never enlisted in the military to seek financial gain; you didn’t enlist as a job; you enlisted as a calling. Today’s issue is that individuals are enlisting in the military in order to find employment. Other than expressing our gratitude, there is nothing we can do to repay you, Elwelu said.
Elwelu pleaded with the retirees to continue serving their causes and other successes since they had already done a great deal for the country.
“Go, take care of yourself, and get ready for your future. Don’t go to the grave while your loved ones are cursing you since that’s where you’re going. Elwelu counseled men to go prepare their wives and children so that they would be content with them once they were gone.
Elwelu also asked the retirees to refrain from planning to get vengeance on individuals who had irritated them. Then he prayed for a spirit of reconciliation.
“Everything about us will depend on your character. Elwelu pleaded with them to “represent us very well and prepare for us who are still in service and are soon joining you.”
Elwelu then pleaded with the surviving servants to add to their selfless devotion with what the retirees had left, promising to uphold the good name they had established.
“The folks we left behind have maintained our reputation. You can even turn off your phones as you go to sleep. The moment has come for you to approach your cows, goats, and kids, Elwelu concluded.
