Opposition Leaders To Present Electrol Reforms Today, See What Is Expected
By Gad Masereka
At a currently continuing consultative session, leaders of opposing political parties are anticipated to propose proposals for constitutional and electoral reforms.
The three-day training, which began in Kampala yesterday, was organized by the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LoP).
It is anticipated that the leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, the Forum for Democratic Change, Patrick Amuriat, and Mr. Nobert Mao, the president general of the Democratic Party and Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, will discuss the “legislative reforms necessary to improve Uganda’s political landscape.”
Other opposition figures will be there include Mr. Saddam Gayira of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Mr. Jimmy Akena of the Uganda People’s Congress, and Mr. Asumani Basalirwa of the Justice Forum (Jeema).
Concerns about the arbitrary arrests, detentions, and torture of their supporters have been expressed by legal experts, academics, opinion leaders, and members of civil society.
As a result, it is anticipated that the leaders of the opposition parties will address issues in the election of 2021 as well as push for reforms such the reinstatement of two terms of five years for the presidency, a smaller Parliament and Cabinet, and the repeal of the Public Order Management Act.
Betty Aol Ocan, a former LoP and current MP for Gulu City, stated that both her party, the FDC, and the new discussions have their complete support.
