Boda-Boda Riders Encouraged to Organize for Government Assistance in Busoga

In a bid to foster better access to government poverty alleviation programs, Boda-Boda riders in Namutumba District, located in the Busoga Sub-Region, have been urged to organize themselves into groups. This was during a meeting held on Saturday, which brought together key stakeholders including representatives from the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), the District NRM Registrar, and the local security officers headed by DPC Mr. Nuwagaba Herbert.

The meeting aimed to provide insights into social, political, and security dynamics pertinent to the Boda-Boda community. Mr. Wamunye Sam, Chairperson of the Boda-Boda riders in Namutumba District, voiced concerns over the selection criteria for beneficiaries of government initiatives such as PDM, Emyooga, and NYP funds, citing a perceived lack of favor towards the riders.

In response, Ms. Naigaga Lilian, the ONC District Coordinator, emphasized the importance of organization among the riders, highlighting that structured groups stand a better chance of accessing government support. She underscored the need for unity and coherence to enhance their eligibility for such programs.

Adding to the discourse, DPC Mr. Nuwagaba Herbert cautioned riders against engaging in disruptive activities, particularly protests, especially after receiving minimal financial assistance. He also advised them to refrain from using Kenyan number plates, emphasizing compliance with local regulations.

In conclusion, the ONC team reiterated the importance of organization, focus, and active participation in government initiatives. They encouraged Boda-Boda riders to seize opportunities provided by these programs to improve their livelihoods directly. The call for unity and engagement echoes a broader effort to empower grassroots communities in Busoga towards sustainable socio-economic development.
