President Museveni Commissions Nakivubo Stadium, Hails Hamis Kiggundu For The Good Work

Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, has today been commissioned by President Museveni, and set to bolster Uganda’s sports infrastructure, vital for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations bid.

While commissioning the stadium, president Museveni emphasized the importance of stadiums over ownership, lauding businessman Hamis Kiggundu’s efforts in the stadium’s reconstruction.


It should be noted be that since its reconstruction in 2017, Nakivubo Stadium’s revitalization faced setbacks due to concerns over its suitability for international matches. The Confederation of African Football and FIFA cited security issues surrounding the stadium’s location and road network.

President Museveni, however, hailed the completion of the stadium, commending Ham Kiggundu’s role. He highlighted Kiggundu’s persuasive vision, which secured the government’s support amidst competing interests for the land.

Reflecting on Uganda’s developmental trajectory, Museveni underscored the shift towards private sector involvement in infrastructure projects. He contrasted the current approach with past government ownership models, advocating for increased private sector participation to drive progress in various sectors.
