The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) court has dismissed a case filed by Gashumba accusing the office of the president of using the slogan “TOVA KU MAIN” and a picture of President Museveni, of which he claims ownership and copyright.

Delivering his judgment, the court registrar, Birungi Denis, said that by the time Gashumba registered the slogan in URSB,the office of the president had already launched it.

In June this year, Frank Gashumba and Ibrahim Kittatta, the Lwengo district chairperson, took the case to the court of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), accusing the office of the President of using the “Tova Kumain” slogan.

Delivering his judgment, URSB Registrar Denis Birungi noted that the claims for ownership and copyright of Frank Gashumba and Ibrahim Kitatta were not true.

According to the ruling, the complainants registered the slogan after it was launched by the office of the president, and they had no ownership over the image of the president used.

Gashumba was in this case represented by his lawyer, Blaire Ntambi, and Hajjat Namyalo was represented by Usaama Sebuufu. We spoke to both sides after the judgment.

Frank Gashumba, the petitioner number one, said he is not satisfied with the ruling and will appeal to the High Court.

The ‘Tova Ku Main’ slogan, championed by Hajjat Namyalo, gained momentum in late 2022 and is frequently used at NRM functions and events where President Yoweri Museveni has been endorsed for extending his leadership beyond 2026.
