4 die after taxi plunges into swamp in Buyende

Buyende, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Busoga North have confirmed the demise of four folks who were touring in a commuter taxi that plunged into Nalujjo Swamp in Kagulu Sub-county, Buyende District. The accident happened when a commuter taxi, registration number UBD 160F, en route from Buyende to Kaliro District, misplaced control and veered into the swamp.

The entire occupants reportedly drowned and died on the insist because the auto sank into the deeper substances of the swamp. The deceased, comprising one lady and three men, were temporarily laid at Mulali Major Faculty playground, looking forward to transportation to Kidera Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination.

Godfrey Kadogo, a resident in the house, talked about the accident happened around hour of darkness. He eminent that he and others were on a routine evening patrol—phase of community efforts to curb cattle theft—when they witnessed the incident and fleet mobilized rescue teams.

“Sadly, by the level the police divers joined us, all the victims had already died,” Kadogo talked about. Moses Loota, a boda boda rider who turned into once closely following the taxi, blamed the accident on the slim and slippery aspect dual carriageway. He eminent that the aspect dual carriageway has several awful sections with uncomfortable drainage and progressively sinking culverts, in particular at some level of wet seasons.

“We have considered extra than one accidents alongside this aspect dual carriageway, mainly racy motorcycles. The Ministry of Works has now not performed any wide upgrades,” Loota talked about. He appealed to the ministry to fetch a bridge across the swamp to prevent extra tragedies triggered by flooding.

Busoga North Police Spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the incident, announcing investigations are ongoing to envision the right rationalization for the accident.
