In a demonstration of community solidarity and national pride, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) joined forces with local leaders in Kabale district to undertake a massive cleanup of Kabale town. This endeavor served as a focal point in the commemoration of the 43rd anniversary of Tarehe Sita.
Led by Major Godfrey Demoi Otim, commanding the 31st Battalion, alongside Kabale’s Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, and Kigezi Regional Police Commander, Ibrahim Saiga, the collaborative effort aimed to revitalize several key locations within Kabale town. Notable sites included Kabale Central Market, Owino Market, and Kamukira Health Center IV in the southern division of Kabale Municipality.
RDC Nyakahuma underscored the symbolic significance of the UPDF’s involvement in the cleanup, citing it as a gesture of appreciation to the Ugandan populace for their unwavering support during times of conflict. He emphasized the UPDF’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security and fostering a strong bond between the military and civilians.
Kabale Municipality Central Division LC3 Chairman, Sam Arinaitwe, highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness standards in public spaces such as Kabale Central Market and drainage systems. He urged traders and residents alike to uphold hygiene practices for the collective benefit of the community.
Musa Asiimwe, president of Ghetto Youth in the Kigezi sub-region, commended the Tarehe Sita celebrations for fostering collaboration between Ghetto youth and security agencies. He praised the joint efforts in combating criminal activities and enhancing safety measures within the region.
The cleanup campaign not only revitalized Kabale town but also symbolized a united front in commemorating the sacrifices and achievements of the UPDF throughout its 43-year history. As the nation continues to honor Tarehe Sita, initiatives like these serve as a testament to the enduring partnership between the military, local leadership, and the wider community in advancing national development and prosperity.
