Movements In The Shadow: Andrew Mwenda Asks Police To Arrest MK Supporters
The spokesperson for the MK movement, Andrew Mwenda, has urged the police to take action against certain supporters of the movement, whom he referred to as unscrupulous. Mwenda, using his X page, pointed out that these individuals have been using MK number plates to flout traffic regulations and engage in other unlawful activities.
In an effort to distance the movement from such behavior, Mwenda emphasized that this conduct goes against the principles of the MK movement, which is dedicated to upholding the rule of law. He explicitly instructed the police to promptly arrest any offenders caught in the act, tarnishing the reputation of the movement.
Mwenda took to social media to convey this message, stating, “It has come to our notice that some unscrupulous persons using MK number plates violate traffic rules and commit other misdemeanors. This is to inform everyone that the MK Movement is committed to the rule of law. Police should not hesitate to apprehend such offenders.”
Furthermore, the head of the Independent Magazine urged all MK affiliates to adhere to the law, reminding them that they represent not only the movement but also the first son and potential presidential material. He stressed the importance of exhibiting proper conduct in order to maintain the integrity of the movement.
Mwenda also raised the possibility that the perpetrators of these crimes may not genuinely support the MK movement but could be saboteurs attempting to discredit the movement through their actions. He suggested that these individuals might be exploiting the movement’s name for their own disruptive agenda.
It’s worth recalling that the MK movement, led by President Museveni’s son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is eyeing a presidential challenge, potentially in 2026 or later. Despite criticism and concerns about the first son’s violations of army laws, including engaging in political rallies while serving as an active army officer, President Museveni appears determined to see his son succeed him in a non-hereditary position.
