Muhoozi commissions the barracks

By Gad Masereka

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, has pledged that barracks will be built all throughout the nation to accommodate the needs of the armed forces.

Muhoozi made the promise during the opening of the multi-billion dollar transportation workshop and apartments at the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo.

More than 16 officer families will be able to stay in the apartment that has been named after former Democratic Republic of the Congo Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba.

According to Muhoozi, the 1906-founded Bombo Barracks is significant historically for both Uganda and East Africa.

He expressed his gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief for their painstaking work in creating the army and providing it with cutting-edge facilities and tools.

In the same vein, he expressed his gratitude to the army’s top brass, in particular Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Commander Land Forces, for his crucial contribution to the building of the officers’ apartments and the auto shop.

Gen Muhoozi was commended by Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga for intervening when he was most required.

“Without you, these projects would have been completely inactive, but since you arrived, you have really rekindled our programs, such as the one to build the perimeter fence, which is about to be finished.” said Muhanga.

Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Staff, Land Forces, explained to the invited guests that Gen Muhoozi’s fortitude and his “good” working practices made it possible to construct these complexes worth billions of dollars, and he pledged to make sure the facilities are effectively protected.

During Financial Year 2020, the Land Force would receive Sh28.5 billion for the construction of 400 housing units across several formations, according to Lt Col James Lwegaba, who briefed the visitors.

More initiatives are ongoing and virtually finished in several Divisions and Brigades, he continued.
