UPDF Air Force Helicopter Crash-Lands In Karamoja

A Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force helicopter has crash-landed in Karamoja sub-region.

Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, said the incident happened on Saturday July 29, 2023, at around 1640hours.

“UPDF Air Force helicopter MI24 (Gun Ship) Reg No AF822 crash-landed while on routine operations in Karamoja sub-region under 3 Division Area of Responsibility,” Kulayigye said on Sunday.

He said the incident happened at Nadiket village located 5.3km West of Moroto barracks, Laptuk Sub-County in Moroto District.

“The pilot and the three air crews who were on board are safe. The scene has been secured for further management.”

He said the cause of the crash-landing will be established by a technical team of UPDF Air Force experts.

He added: “UPDF in the region would like to appeal to the members of the surrounding community to desist from accessing the scene of the crash-landing.”
