Namayingo Residents Send NRM’s Barbara Nekesa To President Museveni On Issues of Gold mining.
Leaders and the youths in Namayingo District have requested Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo to address a number of issues affecting the district before President M7, this includes their suspension from gold mining points.
According to one of the areas LC1 of one of the villages in the town councils, several residents are arrested, beaten whenever they attempt to access the gold mining points, yet it is now the only economic activity available ever since they were suspended from the lake, where they could go fishing.
This was during the fficial launch of the Namayumba Youth Empowerment SACCO in Namayingo District on the 23rd of November 2024.
The event was graced by Hon. Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo, the National Treasurer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) who was the chief guest.
While at the event, Hon. Nekesa advised residents of Namayingo District to embrace commercial agriculture and education and get involved in government poverty eradication programmes. warning that the over-reliance on land fragmentation has contributed to food shortages in many households.
She encouraged smaller landowners to adopt more diversified and profitable agricultural practices and also documentation of their properties, i.e., land tiles, etc.
I want to encourage the people of Namayingo, most essentially the youths, to focus on commercial agriculture and avoid land fragmentation. It’s essential to process land titles to secure your ownership,” Nekesa emphasized.
Nekesa, a former Woman Mp Busia District, former state minister for Karamoja affairs and former Uganda’s ambassador, also praised President M7 for equipping the district with schools, better roads, health facilities and enough security.
Nekesa contributed Six Million Shillings cash on behalf of the National Resistance Movement NRM and promised to continue giving maximum support to the SACCO.
She advised SACCO members to always be transparent and grow the funds in order to benefit from it.
The ceremony was also attended by Members of Parliament, national youth leaders, RDCS, councillors, and other leaders of Namayingo District.
