Pan-African Pyramid To Bring Christmas Cheer, Environmental Hope To Kyaka 2 Refugee Camp With Chief Guest Paul Flynn

In a powerful press conference held at the Satellite Hotel in Kisaasi, Mr. Andrew Irumba Katusabe, the speaker of Pan-African Pyramid, announced the organization’s upcoming visit to the Kyaka 2 Refugee Camp on December 19, 2023. The chief guest for this year’s project is the internationally acclaimed environmental philanthropist, Paul Flynn.

The Pan-African Pyramid, in collaboration with various sponsors and partners, has been conducting annual relief aid projects during the Christmas season, targeting refugee camps across Africa. The organization has successfully visited Kiryandongo, Bidibidi, Rwamwanja, Nakivale, and others in previous years, providing aid to those affected by various challenges.

Mr. Katusabe highlighted the unique challenges faced by the 163,000 refugees in Kyaka 2, originating from nine different countries, emphasizing that 60 percent of them are young people and children, while 25 percent are women. The Pan-African Pyramid has focused its relief efforts on addressing the needs of the most vulnerable groups, particularly children and women.

This year, the Pan-African Pyramid is joined by Ambassador Paul Flynn, an international environmentalist and recipient of the Pan-African Pyramid 2023 award. Ambassador Flynn, through his Gro Foundation, aims to plant 550 million trees in Uganda by 2030 and one billion trees globally. His visit to Kyaka 2 Refugee Camp marks the beginning of this ambitious project.

During the press conference, Ambassador Flynn outlined his vision for climate finance to uplift vulnerable communities out of poverty. He pledged not only symbolic tree planting but also a commitment to fund a million trees in the Kyaka 2 community. In addition, solar equipment worth $25,000 will be donated for rural electrification and livelihood projects.

Addressing questions about the feasibility of carbon offset certificates, Ambassador Flynn explained the potential of the carbon market, emphasizing the financial benefits for vulnerable communities in Africa. He highlighted the opportunity for Uganda to play a significant role in creating a product that could generate revenue on the global market.

Mr. Katusabe closed the press conference with a call for environmental protection and a reminder of the Pan-African Pyramid’s commitment to humanitarian activities. He urged Africans to embrace the spirit of pan-africanism, humanity, and solidarity, emphasizing the need to go back to the basics of being their brother’s keepers.

As part of the ceremony, Ambassador Flynn was presented with the Pan-African Pyramid flag, symbolizing his significant role in the mission to bring relief aid, environmental conservation, and lasting change to the Kyaka 2 Refugee Camp.
