By Gad Masereka
Senior Presidential Advisor and Head of the Office of the National Chairman Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye on Tuesday 10th, 2026 extended the Ramadan outreach programme to Makerere University, where she met Muslim students at the university mosque and encouraged them to remain disciplined in their studies and faithful to the moral values of the holy month.
The engagement, held at the university’s main mosque, brought together leaders of the Makerere University Muslim Students Association, clerics and students observing the fast. Namyalo was received by MUMSA chairman Kayiwa Shuraihu Musa alongside the university Imam Dr. Sowedi Mayanja and Deputy Imam Muhammed Musungule, who welcomed the outreach as an opportunity to strengthen support for Muslim students during Ramadan.
Addressing the congregation after prayers, Namyalo commended the Muslim community at the university for maintaining order and harmony within the campus environment. She urged students to remain focused on their academic journey while nurturing the spiritual discipline associated with the holy month.
“University life presents many opportunities and also many temptations,” she told the gathering. “Remain patient, stay committed to your studies, and let your faith guide the decisions you make as you prepare for your future.”
She also reminded the students about the importance of moral responsibility, advising young people to make careful choices that safeguard their health and wellbeing. Namyalo emphasized that HIV and AIDS remain a serious challenge among the youth and encouraged students to exercise restraint and uphold values that protect their lives and ambitions.
During the meeting, she appealed to the leadership of the Muslim Students Association to revive Quran recitation competitions within the university community.
According to Hajjat Namyalo, such activities can strengthen faith, build unity among students and promote a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings. She pledged support from the Office of the National Chairman to ensure the initiative is successfully revived.
Leaders of the Muslim Students Association welcomed the visit and expressed appreciation for the support extended to students observing the fast. Kayiwa said the Office of the National Chairman had contributed 200 boxes of food items to support the association’s Iftar and Sahoor programme, helping students access meals for breaking the fast and early morning preparations.
“On behalf of MUMSA, we are grateful for this timely support,” Kayiwa said. “It has helped many Muslim students observe Ramadan with dignity while continuing with their academic responsibilities.”
He added that the gesture reflected a strong commitment to the welfare of young people and strengthened the relationship between the university Muslim community and national leadership.
The visit to Makerere forms part of a wider Ramadan outreach programme by the Office of the National Chairman aimed at engaging Muslim communities across institutions and supporting activities that promote faith, discipline and unity during the holy month.
Organizers say the initiative also seeks to encourage young people to remain grounded in positive values while pursuing education and contributing to national development.
