NRM Chairpersons Praise Hajjat Namyalo For Strengthening Grassroots Mobilization At Kyambogo Iftar
By Gad Masereka
Kampala — The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, on Monday evening hosted Muslim clerics and National Resistance Movement district chairpersons from the Greater Buganda region for a special Iftar dinner at the ONC offices in Kyambogo, bringing together political and religious leaders in a gathering that highlighted unity, faith, and grassroots mobilization during the holy month of Ramadan.
The dinner drew NRM district and municipality chairpersons alongside prominent Muslim leaders representing various sects, creating an atmosphere of reflection as the faithful observed the daily breaking of the fast.
The meeting also served as an opportunity for dialogue between political leaders and religious institutions, reinforcing the role faith communities continue to play in guiding society and strengthening social cohesion.
Speaking during the gathering, Mukono District NRM Chairperson John Baptist Wamala, who led the delegation of party leaders, commended Namyalo for what he described as tireless grassroots engagement that has helped bring the Office of the National Chairman closer to ordinary Ugandans.
Wamala noted that such engagements have played a visible role in strengthening political mobilization, particularly in the Buganda region.
“We appreciate Hajjat Namyalo for continuously engaging leaders at the grassroots and connecting the Office of the National Chairman with communities,” Wamala said. “Her outreach programs have strengthened support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, especially in Buganda where the NRM registered strong support.”
Other district leaders echoed similar sentiments, praising the initiative as an important platform that allows local party structures to interact directly with national mobilization structures while also engaging religious leaders who influence community values and guidance.
Christopher Nkoyoyo, the NRM District Chairperson for Nakasongola, thanked Namyalo for organizing the gathering and asked God to bless her work and the leadership she supports.
“We thank Hajjat Namyalo for bringing us together for this Iftar dinner and for her continued commitment to supporting the work of the President and strengthening our movement,” Nkoyoyo said.
In her remarks, Namyalo expressed gratitude to Muslim leaders for their prayers and to the NRM chairpersons for honoring the invitation. She emphasized the importance of unity and called on leaders to encourage communities to actively embrace government wealth creation programs aimed at lifting households out of poverty.
“Poverty knows no religion and it knows no tribe. That is why we must all embrace the message of wealth creation championed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” Namyalo told the gathering.
She also urged women to play an active role in economic development within families and communities, noting that hardworking women are central to building stable households and peaceful homes.
“When women work hard, they strengthen families and create stability in society,” she said.
Namyalo also assured district chairpersons that she would follow up on issues they had raised, including reminding the President about vehicles previously pledged to them and facilitating a meeting between the grassroots leaders and the Head of State.
“I will follow up on the concerns you have raised, including the vehicles and the meeting with the President, because the work you do at the grassroots is important for strengthening our movement,” she said.
The spiritual dimension of the evening was led by Muslim clerics who used the occasion to reflect on the deeper meaning of Ramadan. Sheikh Taibu Mutyaba, Director of Bilal Islamic Institute Kakyiri, delivered a sermon reminding believers that fasting is intended to nurture righteousness, humility, and compassion within society.
Quoting from the Holy Qur’an, he reminded the congregation of the purpose of fasting. “O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may attain righteousness.”
The event was also attended by Sheikh Hussein Sekajja, the Super Supreme Kadhi of Kampala, who represented the Supreme Mufti as chief guest. Religious leaders used the platform to emphasize that Ramadan goes beyond abstaining from food and drink and should instead strengthen bonds of unity, generosity, and moral responsibility within communities.
As dusk fell, the faithful gathered for the breaking of the fast before sharing a meal in a warm atmosphere of fellowship. Conversations continued late into the evening as guests exchanged greetings and reflected on the values of faith, generosity, and unity that define the sacred month.
The Kyambogo gathering forms part of a wider series of Ramadan outreach activities spearheaded by Namyalo across the country. In recent weeks, similar engagements have been held in Iganga and at Lugogo Millennium Park in Kampala, where President Museveni attended a major Iftar gathering as chief guest. Through these initiatives, the Office of the National Chairman continues to strengthen its connection with communities while acknowledging the role of religious leaders in promoting harmony and national development.
